Carvoeiro Boardwalk is the tidy, camera-ready edge of this coast: a wooden path laid along jagged limestone, with the Atlantic below and rock shapes changing as you move. It gives you the cliff drama without needing a full hike, so the photographs come quickly — railings, ochre stone, blue water, and small boats passing beneath the headland.
The strongest frames are along the cliff line itself. Look for the places where the boardwalk bends and the coast opens out, then use the timber rail as a lead-in toward the broken rock and sea. Below the path, steps drop toward small caves and holes cut into the limestone, giving a second, tighter set of images after the wide coastal views. A sea-through-the-keyhole composition is part of the local draw, but treat it as a specific shot to find rather than the whole story.
When to go: sunset has the clearest photographic pull here, with the low sun working across the rugged coastline. Spring also has a good practical case: visits in March, April and early May describe a calmer, comfortable walk, with fewer people than the busier village centre. Late morning still works for clean sea colour and clifftop detail, especially if you want the path, rocks and water to read sharply.
Access is straightforward by Algarve cliff standards. The boardwalk runs from the Algar Seco side toward Carvoeiro, and there are steps down to explore the cave area. The walk itself is easy and relaxed, but the lower cave access changes the feel: wear shoes that can handle uneven stone if you plan to leave the boards. This is a popular free attraction, so expect the experience to vary with season and time of day.
Who it’s for: landscape photographers, travel shooters and families who want coastal variety without committing to a long trail. It is a strong stop in a Carvoeiro circuit with Algar Seco, Boneca Bar and the village, rather than a whole-day destination on its own.
