Tavira Island is one of those places that instantly makes you slow down. Set just off the coast near Tavira in the Algarve, this beautiful island is all about wide open space, sea breezes, and that “nothing on the schedule” feeling that’s hard to find elsewhere. Even if you’re basing yourself inland for a few days, it’s an easy way to add a true beach day to your trip—one that feels natural, unspoiled, and wonderfully simple.
What makes Tavira Island special is the sense of scale. You’re not limited to a tiny patch of sand; you can wander and find your own stretch to settle into. It’s ideal for travelers who like a relaxed rhythm—arrive, take a long walk, swim, read, then repeat. The atmosphere tends to stay calm and easygoing, which is exactly why so many visitors return year after year when they’re in this part of Portugal.
If you’re planning a visit, go with a “light and comfortable” mindset. Bring the essentials you’ll want for a full beach day and allow time to enjoy the crossing and the slower pace once you arrive. Whether you come for a peaceful morning stroll, an afternoon of sun and salt air, or a full day of doing absolutely nothing, Tavira Island delivers that classic Algarve coastal feeling—beautiful, restorative, and refreshingly uncomplicated.

in the last weekVery spacious beach with lots of space. You can pay about 21-25 euros for a sunshade / loungers. They also sell beer in the same spot right on the beach. The water is cold but you kind of get used to it. Lots of people in the water. You do get here by ferry - 2.70euros round trip. Comes every half an hour There are many restaurants and food spots. We grabbed some wraps and they were about 7-8 euros each. The sand was nice and soft, clear waters!
