Praia dos Caneiros keeps its scale a secret until you’re in it: a compact cove near Ferragudo, framed hard on both sides by ochre cliffs, with shallows that turn genuinely turquoise over pale sand. Rei das Praias is wedged right into that frame: a beach-club restaurant built against the cliff at one end of the cove, terraces stepping down toward the water, sunbeds fanning out across the sand in front.
The composition assembles itself: cliff wall, stepped terraces, turquoise shallows, and the rock stack standing just offshore. From the sand you shoot the venue against the cliff; from the terrace you shoot over the loungers into water that needs no editing. Few Algarve venues sit this deep inside their own postcard.
When to go: midday through early afternoon, when high sun ignites the turquoise. It’s one of the rare venues where harsh light is the friend. Summer is packed, with the cove filling by mid-morning; June and September give you the colour with breathing room. It’s a seasonal beach operation. Check it’s open before travelling outside the warm months.
Who it’s for: beach-club aesthetes, cove-and-cliff photographers, families who want lunch steps from safe shallows. If you want an empty wild cove, look elsewhere on this coast. Caneiros in season is a scene, and Rei das Praias is its centrepiece.
