Praia dos Caneiros keeps its scale a secret until you’re in it: a compact cove near Ferragudo, framed hard on both sides by ochre cliffs, with shallows that turn genuinely turquoise over pale sand. Rei das Praias is wedged right into that frame — a beach-club restaurant built against the cliff at one end of the cove, terraces stepping down toward the water, sunbeds fanning out across the sand in front.

The composition assembles itself: cliff wall, stepped terraces, turquoise shallows, and the rock stack standing just offshore. From the sand you shoot the venue against the cliff; from the terrace you shoot over the loungers into water that needs no editing. Few Algarve venues sit this deep inside their own postcard.

When to go: midday through early afternoon, when high sun ignites the turquoise — one of the rare venues where harsh light is the friend. Summer is packed, with the cove filling by mid-morning; June and September give you the colour with breathing room. It’s a seasonal beach operation — check it’s open before travelling outside the warm months.

Who it’s for: beach-club aesthetes, cove-and-cliff photographers, families who want lunch steps from safe shallows. If you want an empty wild cove, look elsewhere on this coast — Caneiros in season is a scene, and Rei das Praias is its centrepiece.
