Where the Arade meets the sea below Ferragudo, a long stone breakwater walls the river mouth, and Praia do Molhe is the sand that leans against it. The jetty does two jobs: it shelters the beach from open swell, and it turns the place into a grandstand for river traffic, with fishing boats, sailboats and the occasional big hull sliding past on their way up to Portimão.
The view is half the character. Across the water sits Portimão (marina, waterfront, high-rises), which makes this an honest urban-facing beach rather than a wild one. On this side, though, you have Ferragudo’s fishing-village streets a short walk away and calm, protected water in front, which is exactly the trade plenty of people want.
When to go: late afternoon into sunset, when the sun drops over the river toward Portimão and the homecoming boats pass against the light. Summer weekends bring the local crowd; mornings are quieter.
Who it’s for: families after calm water without surf; boat-watchers (this is one of the coast’s better perches for it); photographers working silhouettes at the river mouth rather than cliff scenery.
