Angrinha is Ferragudo’s front porch — the strip of sand where the village meets the Arade estuary, with the fairytale bulk of São João do Arade castle rising straight from the water at its far end. It’s a river beach in character: calm, shallow and tide-ruled, with small boats moored off the sand and Portimão’s skyline stacked across the water. At low tide the sand runs wide and firm; at high tide it thins to a ribbon.

Be clear about what it is and isn’t. As a swimming beach it’s modest — estuary water, working river traffic — and the proper ocean beaches of Praia Grande and Pintadinho are just around the corner. As a photograph it’s one of the Arade’s best: the castle (privately owned, so admired from outside), the boats, the village climbing the hill in white and terracotta, and the light coming off the river at day’s end.

When to go: low tide for the foreground sand, and the last hour of light, when the sun drops toward Portimão and the estuary goes to metal and silhouette. Ferragudo’s restaurants are a two-minute walk, which makes the sunset frame dangerously easy to pair with dinner.

Who it’s for: photographers after the castle-and-boats frame; families with small kids who want warm, flat water; anyone staying in Ferragudo — it’s the beach you walk to without a plan.

Photography Notes

  • Shooting Notes
The castle is the anchor — set it against the moored boats at low tide, or as a silhouette when the sun drops behind Portimão. It's private, so frames stay exterior.
