Tapas, Sangria, and a Cork-Covered Dining Room in Tavira

Restaurante Ti Maria Tapas & Garrafeira is one of those rare finds in Tavira that feels both special and effortlessly welcoming—perfect when you want a meal that’s memorable without feeling like a tourist production. Step inside and you’ll immediately see why people talk about the atmosphere: there’s a “wow” factor to the dining room (including a famously cool space covered in wine corks) that sets the tone for a laid-back, snackable feast.

This is a place built for sharing, lingering, and ordering “just one more” plate. Guests regularly fall for the bright, refreshing white sangria, the kind of drink that makes the Algarve heat feel like part of the experience. Pair it with their standout small plates and you’ve got an easy recipe for a long, happy lunch or an early evening bite—especially if you arrive a bit earlier to enjoy a calmer, more relaxed room.

On the food side, Ti Maria consistently delivers big flavor in creative combinations. The octopus tempura is a must if you like seafood—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and lifted by a sauce that ties it all together. Seafood fans also rave about the tuna tartare, served fresh with slivered almonds and a light, savory-sweet dressing that keeps each bite tasting clean and vibrant. If you’re hungrier, the ribs are another favorite: tender, falling off the bone, and served over chunky potato slices that land somewhere between wedges and chips—comfort food with a bit of flair.

It’s not just the plates that win people over—service is consistently warm and attentive, and the overall vibe feels like a local favorite you’re lucky to have stumbled upon. From the little nibbles brought out at the start to the cider on tap and the easygoing energy inside, Ti Maria makes it simple to settle in, eat well, and leave already planning your next visit. If you’re looking for a tapas restaurant in Tavira with character, great drinks, and genuinely standout food, this is the one to put at the top of your list.

Far below what one would expect for a coastal area with excellent fish and octopus... the tuna was reasonable, but the octopus was beyond meager, lacking even a hint of sea flavor, which was the bare minimum. On the plus side, they had good bread and a pleasant gin.

Espaço acolhedor, gostei dos petiscos, mas as sobremesas muito fracas e pouco frescas. O serviço deixa a desejar (desorganização completa). Empregados sem formação, nem sabem o que têm para servir, no que diz respeito aos vinhos. E quando questionado tornou-se antipático e deselegante. Talvez volte, mas nunca mais em pleno verão.

A very welcoming place, especially the indoor dining area. The food was excellent (the octopus was delicious, the house bruschetta was a great choice, and the sweet potato purée was fantastic). The service from all the staff was impeccable. I highly recommend it.
