Restaurante Martinhal sits right by the sand at Praia do Martinhal, making it an easy choice when you want a relaxed meal with that unmistakable Algarve sea breeze. This welcoming restaurant in Sagres keeps things refreshingly simple: a laid-back setting, a warm atmosphere, and food that tastes genuinely homemade and close to the coast.
What people love most here is how naturally the menu matches the location. If you’re in the mood for seafood, this is the kind of place where ordering fresh fish feels like the obvious move—grilled, well-seasoned, and served in a way that lets the quality speak for itself. Diners often highlight the prawns as a standout, and the fish dishes have a way of arriving so inviting that you’ll understand why some guests forget to take a photo before digging in.
If you’re after a true highlight, the monkfish earns special praise and is frequently described as unforgettable. Pair that with the friendly team—known for going the extra mile—and you’ve got a spot that works just as well for a sunny lunch as it does for an easy-going dinner after a day at the beach. The vibe stays calm and comfortable, perfect for couples, families, or anyone chasing a satisfying meal without fuss.
Because the setting is such a big part of the experience, it’s worth slowing down: enjoy the view, take your time, and let the kitchen do what it does best. For visitors staying nearby or exploring the coast, Restaurante Martinhal is a dependable, feel-good option when you want local flavour in a truly beachside location.

3 weeks agoHere is a revised version that includes the service: The location of the beach bar is truly beautiful. It's certainly a great place for a beer or a drink at sunset, and the atmosphere is definitely inviting. However, we went there for lunch – and it was unfortunately a huge disappointment. Since we were very hungry, we did manage to fill up, but the food was really not even up to par for home cooking. It seemed as if no trained chef had been involved. The burger had no sauce at all, was practically unseasoned, and therefore simply dry. The octopus with vegetables was also burnt. Overall, the food was unfortunately very disappointing. The service also fell short of what we've come to expect in Portugal. Instead of the usual warm and attentive service, the staff was rather reserved and limited themselves to the bare minimum. We would therefore not be returning for lunch. We might give the beach bar another chance for a sundowner or a beer with a small snack – but definitely not for lunch.

a month agoGreat restaurant. Open to non-residents as well. There's a children's play area. The food was excellent. The service was very friendly. Plenty of high chairs are available for children. We'll definitely be back :).
