Murração is the west coast with everything optional stripped away: a remote strip of sand and dark rock inside the Costa Vicentina natural park, north of the Castelejo and Cordoama run, reached by rough unsurfaced track and a final walk down. There are no facilities, no lifeguards and usually very few people; it has long been used as a naturist beach, matter-of-factly and without ceremony.
What you get for the effort is raw Atlantic: serious swell, wind that means it, dark folded cliffs and light that changes by the minute. Swim with real caution (this is unguarded open ocean) and keep clear of the cliff bases, which shed rock. Take everything in, take everything out.
When to go: calm autumn days are its best mood.
Who it’s for: solitude-seekers and naturists who accept the west coast on its own terms.
