Murração is the west coast with everything optional stripped away — a remote strip of sand and dark rock inside the Costa Vicentina natural park, north of the Castelejo–Cordoama run, reached by rough unsurfaced track and a final walk down. There are no facilities, no lifeguards and usually very few people; it has long been used as a naturist beach, matter-of-factly and without ceremony.
What you get for the effort is raw Atlantic: serious swell, wind that means it, dark folded cliffs and light that changes by the minute. Swim with real caution — this is unguarded open ocean — and keep clear of the cliff bases, which shed rock. Take everything in, take everything out.
When to go: calm autumn days are its best mood.
