North of Aljezur near Rogil, Carriagem is a low-tide beach: at high water it’s mostly rock and cliff-foot, and at low water it opens into slabs, channels and tide pools running along the shore. That rhythm decides your visit: check the tide before you go, because the beach you get at low water simply isn’t there at high.
It’s wild-coast Portugal with no services of any kind, reached by track and path, and the schist cliffs above are unstable: keep clear of the base, and don’t expect supervision. Wind and Atlantic swell are the default here, not the exception.
Who it’s for: tide-pool wanderers, photographers who like black rock and white water, and west-coast walkers who prefer their beaches empty.
