Easy Lunch in Monchique Square with Tasty Classics & Great Tarts

Bela Vista is a relaxed restaurant in Monchique set right by Largo dos Chorões—an ideal location if you want a light lunch, a casual dinner, or simply a comfortable seat under canopies while you watch the town go by. It’s a straightforward spot that does the classics well, with a menu that suits mixed groups where everyone wants something different.

Food-wise, it’s the kind of place that hits the mark when you’re hungry and don’t want anything complicated. Diners often rave about how well the omelettes are cooked—simple, comforting, and done properly. Other popular choices include squid, burgers, and piri piri chicken, with guests noting that everything tastes fresh and enjoyable. If you’re after something quick and familiar, the ham-and-cheese or cheese toasties are frequently described as exactly what people were looking for.

Don’t skip dessert here. The almond tart and apple tart get special mention again and again, and they’re a great excuse to linger a little longer in the square. Pair one with a coffee and you’ve got a perfect afternoon break in the heart of town.

Service is another strong point—efficient, friendly, and well-suited to the easygoing pace of a square-side meal. Visitors also appreciate that the prices feel fair, especially considering the central location and the pleasant outdoor seating.

If you’re looking for a dependable restaurant in Monchique with a prime people-watching spot, tasty comfort food, and memorable tarts, Bela Vista is well worth a stop—particularly for a casual lunch that feels simple, sunny, and satisfying.

Avoid at all costs! The waiter decided my family and I were parked illegally, and when we calmly pointed out the lack of a "no parking" sign, two of his friends sitting on the terrace told us to go back to France, while the other (clearly drunk) started shoving my elderly father. The staff from the restaurant across the street got involved, echoing the same sentiments and even resorting to physical violence, including with my sister, even though they're men. As we were getting into the car to escape the beating, the drunken man reappeared and hit me from behind. In short, if you don't want an immersive experience reminiscent of The Hills Have Eyes, steer clear.

Aggressive shopkeepers, verbally and physically violent. Even though we were parked on the public road next to other cars, they attacked us along with the staff of the bar next door and hit my son to make us leave, even though we pointed out that there were no parking restrictions. We were forced to call the GNR (National Republican Guard).

Avoid at all costs! Violent managers who physically assault customers over a parking space! Apparently, parking in the wrong spot deserves a beating!! It's insane!
