A casa do peixe assado is a must-know address in Vila Real de Santo António for anyone who wants classic Portuguese seafood in a lively, traditional setting. The room has that unmistakable local atmosphere—busy in a good way—where the team keeps things friendly and attentive, making it comfortable for both regulars and first-timers.
The star here is the fish. Guests love being able to see it prepared and cooked, adding to the experience and reinforcing what matters most: freshness. From sea bass (robalo) to golden bream and cod, the grilled approach keeps flavors clean and satisfying. Many diners describe their fish as some of the best they’ve had in town—fresh, perfectly cooked, and served in a generous, straightforward style that lets the ingredients shine.
Portions tend to be hearty and well-balanced, often arriving with the kind of sides that make a complete Portuguese meal: salad, potatoes, and vegetables. It’s a great option for sharing too—ordering a larger fish for the table feels natural here, especially if you’re dining with family or a group of friends.
While seafood is clearly the main draw, there’s also variety beyond the grill, making it easier for mixed groups to find something they’ll enjoy. If you’re looking for fresh grilled fish and that true Portuguese seafood restaurant feel in the center of town, A casa do peixe assado is a strong pick for a memorable meal.

in the last weekWe ordered seafood cataplana and a cod tapa. The cataplana was very generous for two, enough for three people, and the cod tapa was also plentiful; everything was delicious. The person who served us was very friendly. The service was a little slow.
