Restaurante 2000 is a classic choice in Vila Real de Santo António when you want a proper Portuguese meal with generous portions, skilled cooking, and service that knows how to handle everything from couples to big family groups. It’s popular at lunchtime for good reason—if you want to arrive to a calm table, aim for the earlier side of lunch service.
The dish that gets people talking is the seafood rice. It’s described as the best some diners have ever had—rich, deeply flavoured, and the kind of plate that makes you plan a return visit before you’ve even finished. Fish lovers will feel right at home here too: expect fresh grilled fish cooked simply and well, letting quality ingredients do the heavy lifting. Meals often start the traditional way, with a typical couvert to set the tone, and the wine list pairs nicely with the seafood-focused menu.
One of the reasons Restaurante 2000 works so well for visitors is how smooth the experience feels. The team is consistently described as friendly, welcoming, and highly professional, and language isn’t a barrier—staff are comfortable helping guests in English and Spanish. That makes it a stress-free option if you’re travelling with family, or if you want recommendations without awkward guessing.
Desserts also get a mention as a strong finish, rounding out a meal that feels complete rather than rushed. Prices are often noted as affordable for the quality and portion sizes, which is part of why so many people make repeat visits during the same trip.
If you’re looking for a dependable, satisfying Portuguese restaurant in VRSA—especially for standout seafood rice and beautifully cooked fish—Restaurante 2000 is an easy pick for lunch or dinner when you want to eat well and leave happy.

a week agoGostei muito de vir aqui porque a comida e o atendimento são ótimos. Já viajei para muitos países, mas aqui senti-me em família. Cuidam muito bem dos clientes. Jantei no Lauch durante uma semana inteira.

a week agoYesterday, July 14th, we ate here, everything was perfect (food, service...), until we asked for the bill. It was handwritten, all legible and clear except for the first course: €27 for what?! They wouldn't clarify, and we had to get serious. They finally explained that two plates of olives, butter, pâté, and bread, WHICH WE DIDN'T ORDER, cost €27. I understand €10, but €27? It seems like a rip-off. Of course, we paid and didn't argue; they must know if this kind of treatment is worth it. WARNING TO ALL FOREIGNERS: RETURN ANYTHING YOU DIDN'T ORDER. Of course, we won't be back, and word of mouth is important too. The final service was appalling for next to nothing. Is this kind of treatment really worth it for the restaurant, especially with customers who would otherwise leave satisfied? They must know.
