Restaurante Casa Velha, set along Estr. da Quinta do Lago in Almancil, is the kind of restaurant you choose when you want the full experience—beautiful surroundings, polished hospitality, and a menu that feels carefully crafted. The space is immaculate and calm, with a five-star-hotel level of presentation that immediately sets the tone for a special lunch or evening out.
The kitchen leans into Portugal’s flavors with a modern, thoughtful touch. Expect dishes that feel exquisite and deliberate, where seafood, beef, poultry, and vegetables each get their moment without being overcomplicated. A great way to start is with the house-made bread—especially with seasonal pumpkin jam, which adds a surprising, memorable sweetness. From there, you can build a meal around beautifully prepared starters like shrimp or goat cheese, and move into richer mains such as a generous cod stew or lightly fried chicken that balances comfort with finesse.
Wine is a major part of what makes Restaurante Casa Velha stand out. The cellar is genuinely impressive, with options spanning Portuguese favorites alongside special selections like French champagne and port. If you enjoy pairing thoughtfully, the team can guide you by flavor profile and help you land on a bottle that fits both the menu and your mood—whether you’re celebrating or simply treating yourself.
Dessert is handled with the same care. The rice pudding, for example, can be surprisingly light and refined, with a soft creaminess lifted by gentle citrus—an elegant finish that doesn’t weigh you down. Service throughout is attentive in the best way: present, professional, and timed so your table feels looked after without interruption.
For anyone searching for fine dining with Portuguese cuisine and a serious wine program in Almancil, Restaurante Casa Velha is a standout choice—ideal for anniversaries, holidays, and those “let’s make tonight count” meals.

3 weeks ago(Spain) I’ll start with the positives, although unfortunately there aren’t many. The restaurant is in a fantastic location, with convenient parking right underneath. The atmosphere, décor, and views are beautiful. It’s a great place to stop for a beer or a glass of wine, but definitely not for dinner. We had booked the tasting menu in advance over the phone (which, by the way, they don’t tell you anything about beforehand). At first, the service was impeccable—we were served our drinks promptly. Unfortunately, from that point on, everything went downhill. We arrived at 9:00 p.m. and didn’t leave until 11:45 p.m., and not because we were lingering over dinner. It took nearly half an hour for the starters to arrive and almost another hour before the main course was served. The same thing happened with dessert. The waiting time was unbearable. By the end, I’d completely lost my appetite and felt sleepier than hungry. As for the food, it simply wasn’t worth it—especially not for the rather steep price of €60 per person, excluding drinks (which would be perfectly reasonable for a tasting menu if the quality matched the price). The chicken was dry, the rice was bland, and the octopus had no flavor at all. The croquettes were nothing special. The only highlight was the prawns. Overall, there was nothing particularly original or memorable about the food. I’d rather not even talk about the desserts. The rice pudding was worse than many supermarket versions, and there was some sort of cake served with anise ice cream (anise!). It was a combination that did absolutely nothing for us. To make matters worse, by the end of the meal we had been completely forgotten by the staff. Overall, it’s a nice place to enjoy a drink and the views, but not somewhere I’d recommend for dinner. I’ve eaten at many restaurants with far better food, much more efficient service, and more reasonable prices. In my opinion, it’s a classic tourist trap that I unfortunately fell for.
