Quarteira’s Go-To for Piri Piri Chicken, Grilled Steaks & Big Portions

Rei do Churrasco Quarteira is a must for anyone who loves the unmistakable flavour of charcoal grilling. Located on R. 25 de Abril in Quarteira, this busy spot blends a casual, lively setting with food that keeps people coming back—whether you’re dining in with a group or grabbing something to take away.

The headline act is the chicken. Regulars describe it as succulent, tender, and packed with flavour, making it a clear first choice if you’re visiting for the first time. The house piri piri sauce is famously hot and distinctive, so if you like spice, you’re in for a treat—just be aware it doesn’t hold back. If you prefer something more balanced, mixing sauces is a smart move and still delivers that signature kick.

What makes the meal even better are the sides. Sweet potato garlic bread and corn cakes are frequently mentioned as standout companions—comforting, filling, and ideal for mopping up any extra sauce. It’s the kind of spread that turns a simple grilled meal into a proper feast.

Beyond chicken, the grill menu has depth. If you arrive craving beef, you’ll find well-cooked steak options that satisfy, especially for diners who want something hearty. There’s also a strong wine selection to match, which elevates the experience from “quick bite” to a relaxed evening out.

Service is another highlight: staff are widely described as welcoming and efficient, even when things get busy. For takeaway, it’s worth arriving early, as peak times can come with an organised queueing system. Save room for dessert if you can—the coconut cheesecake is known for being both delicious and generously portioned.

For bold piri piri chicken, expertly grilled steak, and a true churrasco restaurant experience, Rei do Churrasco Quarteira is one of the strongest picks in town.

Excellent service! The waitress was energetic, friendly, and attentive. The dishes were served quickly, generous portions, and delicious. This small restaurant is tucked away in the old Quarteira district, but it's well worth the trip; you must come to taste the specialties of Madeira.
