Just off the busier streets, Staar Restaurante feels like a rewarding find in the centre of Albufeira. Tucked along a small, cosy street, it offers a calmer setting while still being close enough to the Old Town energy—perfect when you want a great meal without the party vibe.
The menu is built for people who love flavour and generous portions, and the grill is a clear highlight. The tomahawk steak is a signature order, often described as the best guests have ever had—bold, juicy, and cooked with confidence. It’s the kind of dish that turns dinner into an occasion, especially for groups who want to share and compare notes. If you’re exploring beyond steak, seafood and richer plates shine too. The creamy garlic prawns with monkfish are noted for being delicate yet full of taste, and the duck is praised for coming out soft and medium rare, showing the kitchen knows how to hit the details that matter.
What makes Staar especially appealing is how approachable it feels. Service is friendly, inviting, and geared toward making you comfortable—great for holiday dining when you want genuine warmth rather than formality. Many diners also mention the value: the quality-to-price ratio feels surprisingly strong for the level of cooking, which makes it easy to justify a second visit (or two) during a stay in town.
The atmosphere matches the location—intimate and relaxed, ideal for couples, families, and groups of friends who want to actually talk over dinner. Even if you’re only in Albufeira for a few nights, this is the sort of place that earns a spot on your “must return” list because the experience feels consistently special from start to finish.
If you’re searching for a hidden gem restaurant with tomahawk steak and a welcoming, unpretentious vibe in Albufeira, Staar Restaurante is an easy recommendation.

in the last weekMixed feelings.. The starting with new Zealand mussels, was very nice and highly recommend. But for the main course the fettuccine with prawn was almost tasteless and the grilled sea bass was okay nothing special could use some seasoning.. Same goes for waiters, one seemed nice where the other looked like she did not want to be there

3 weeks agoAbsolutely delicious! We came back twice because we enjoyed it so much. The shrimp dish with monkfish and basmati rice is exquisite, and the key lime pie is to die for. Bonus: the waiter is lovely
