Tremoços is one of the small coves tucked under the cliffs on the western side of Carvoeiro, also signed on some maps as Praia Oeste — the two names get used loosely for the adjoining pockets of sand along this stretch. On the ground it reads as one modest place: a strip of gold between sculpted ochre walls, a few paces of shallows, and the open Lagoa coast beyond.
It lives in the shadow of its neighbours. Praia do Carvoeiro has the boats, the restaurants and the postcard; Paraíso, close by, gets the listicles. These coves take the same rock and the same clear water and subtract the audience — the trade-off being no facilities, no lifeguards and an access that asks a little more of you than a promenade ramp.
When to go: low tide, when the sand is at its widest and the rock foregrounds come out from under the water; late afternoon, when the low sun works along the cliff faces. Even Carvoeiro’s overlooked corners see traffic in August, but ‘busy’ here is a different number than on the village beach.
Who it’s for: Carvoeiro-based visitors who want the cliff-and-cove character without main-beach density; photographers hunting quieter foregrounds within walking distance of the postcard. One plain caution — the cliffs are as soft and unstable here as anywhere on the Lagoa coast, so stay off the base of the walls.
