Praia do Vau is the modest one between the headliners — a family-scale beach west of Praia da Rocha, backed not by towering walls but by low ochre cliffs you can practically look over. That modesty is the photographic point. Because the cliffs are small, the evening light gets at all of them, and for the last hour of the day the whole back of the beach turns rust and gold while bigger-name beaches nearby are already partly in their own shadow.
