Praia do Risco is one of the Albufeira coast’s unadvertised pockets — a small cove pressed under ochre cliffs, off the sunbed circuit and absent from most beach lists. It has no facilities and no supervision, and it trades the serviced comfort of its neighbours for solitude and raw rock.

The central-Algarve stone does its usual work here: sculpted ochre walls and clear water over sand and stone, at its best at low tide when the cove opens up. One plain warning — the cliffs on this stretch are soft, undercut in places and genuinely unstable, so keep off the base of the walls and don’t count on anyone watching this beach.

Who it’s for: confident coast explorers already working Albufeira’s coves who want a frame nobody else has; not a first-choice family beach in any season.
