Praia de Vilamoura is the Algarve with its shirt pressed. The beach runs east from the marina mouth toward Quarteira — a long, flat band of golden sand fronting the region’s most deliberately manufactured resort town — and everything about it is serviced, groomed and convenient. Sunbeds in rows, restaurants a short stroll away around the marina, calm water more often than not. If the western coves are the Algarve’s wild side, this is its concierge.
Be clear about what you’re getting: the backdrop is marina masts and resort architecture, not cliffs, and in August the sand carries a full resort crowd. The compensation is width and ease — the beach absorbs a lot of people before it feels tight, the sand is genuinely good, and there is no descent, no scramble, no planning required beyond showing up.
When to go: it’s a summer machine, and it works — but June and September give you the same services with room to breathe. Morning walks along the waterline, before the sunbed rows fill, are the beach at its best.
Who it’s for: comfort-first beach days — families and anyone who wants lunch, loungers and a marina stroll within a hundred metres of their towel. Photographers get more from the marina itself at dusk than from the beach; the sand is a stage for people, boats and long flat light rather than a landscape subject.
