Santa Eulália is Albufeira with the volume turned down. A couple of headlands east of the Oura strip, the coast relaxes into a broad curve of sand framed by low ochre cliffs with umbrella pines along the top: the classic central-Algarve palette, minus the worst of the crowds and the bar noise. A large resort sits behind the beach, which keeps it serviced, tended and comfortably busy rather than chaotic.

The pines are what make it photogenic. Where most Albufeira beaches are backed by development, here the clifftop greenery leans into the frame, and the red rock glows properly in the last hour of light. The sand shelves gently and the headlands take the edge off the swell, so the water is as family-friendly as the access.

When to go: late afternoon into sunset, when the cliffs go copper and the beach starts emptying; mornings if you want the sand raked and empty. July and August are busy (this is still Albufeira), but it’s the measured kind of busy, sun-lounger rows rather than crowd-crush.

Who it’s for: families based on Albufeira’s east side who want full services without the strip; photographers after pine-and-red-cliff frames with easy access; anyone who likes their beach comfortable, unheroic and reliably pretty.
