Praia da Oura sits at the bottom of Albufeira’s Strip, and there’s no point pretending otherwise: the road above is the Algarve’s densest run of bars and clubs, and the beach inherits the crowd. This is an urban resort beach in full — sunbeds shoulder to shoulder in summer, every service within reach, and a soundtrack that starts before noon.

Taken on its own terms, the beach holds up better than its reputation. The sand is broad and golden, ochre rock closes off both ends, and the water is as clear as anywhere on this coast when the sea is calm. Walk to the sandstone at either end and you can even find a composition that doesn’t admit the hotels behind you.

When to go: out of season, honestly — spring and autumn return the beach to something like calm, and winter mornings here are quietly handsome. In July and August, go early; by mid-morning the sand is a full house.

Who it’s for: anyone staying around the Strip who wants sand within a five-minute walk; night-out crowds sweating out the day after; and beach-hoppers who judge a beach by water and sand rather than by what’s built above it. If you want emptiness or wildness, this is the wrong postcode — Albufeira’s quieter coves are a short drive west.
