Praia Maria Luísa is the eastern Albufeira formula done properly: honey-coloured cliffs, pale soft sand, and rock architecture at both ends — including a double arch that has quietly become one of the most photographed formations on this stretch of coast. It sits between Balaia and Olhos de Água, close enough to the resorts for services in season, far enough from the town centre to feel like a beach rather than a bar’s front yard.

The arches and stacks are the photographic draw, and they work at close range — walk the eastern end at lower tide and the compositions assemble themselves. The cliffs are the other thing to understand: they are handsome, they are ochre, and they shed. This coast has a history of rockfall, the warning signs at the cliff base exist for hard-earned reasons, and no picture is worth standing under an overhang.

When to go: morning, before the sunbed rows fill and while low light gives the ochre rock its colour; shoulder season if you want the arches without figures in every frame.

Who it’s for: families who want serviced sand with better geology than the town beaches; photographers chasing the arch; couples who like a beach walk that ends in rock frames. In August, come early or accept the crowds — this one is no secret.
