Salines- Ciclovia de Tavira is a refreshing change of pace for anyone wanting open landscapes and an easy outdoor adventure in Tavira. Known as a welcoming hiking area that also suits cyclists, it’s ideal for a relaxed walk, a casual ride, or a longer point-to-point cycle day through some of the Algarve’s most beautiful natural corridors. The route is well-suited to visitors staying nearby—especially in Cabanas de Tavira—who want something active without needing complicated logistics.
What makes this area special is the blend of nature and simplicity. It’s the kind of place you can walk into for a quick stop or plan as part of a longer ride, with plenty of opportunities to pause, look around, and take photos. Wildlife is a big highlight here, and flamingo spotting is often the moment that turns an ordinary stroll into something memorable. If you’re traveling with kids, birdwatchers, or anyone who enjoys calm nature experiences, it’s a satisfying, low-pressure outing.
Cyclists especially appreciate how the paths connect and how clear the navigation feels. Riders often mention that the routes are well signposted and enjoyable across multiple stretches, making it easier to build your own itinerary—whether you’re doing a shorter loop or a bigger ride linking towns along the coast. It’s also a great way to see parts of the region you might miss by car, with changing scenery and a peaceful rhythm.
A practical tip: plan your timing. Like many outdoor routes in the Algarve, it’s best enjoyed in cooler parts of the day, particularly in summer. Bring water, sun protection, and take your time. For a scenic, accessible way to experience Tavira’s saltland landscapes and enjoy a bike ride or walk with real natural charm, Salines- Ciclovia de Tavira is a great pick.

7 months agoYou can walk there or drive in. Best to avoid it if it’s too hot. You can spot flamingos – great for a quick stop, highly recommended.

7 years agoUnfortunately you cannot cross the bridge anymore, it is almost collapsing and falling to one side, so it's very dangerous to cross it. If you want to cycle from Cabanas to Tavira you will have to take the N125, but the road is a bit dangerous, there is no separate cycling lane. The nature and salt fields were beautiful.
