Passeios Ria Formosa (Cabanas de Tavira) is a go-to boat tour agency in Cabanas for anyone wanting an exciting, story-rich introduction to the Ria Formosa. Launching from the waterfront, these trips are ideal if you want sunshine, sea air, and a deeper understanding of the lagoon’s way of life—without overcomplicating the day. It’s straightforward to join, easy to enjoy, and packed with the kind of local insight that makes the scenery stick in your memory.
Travelers often highlight the energy and fun of the ride, especially when conditions are perfect and the water is inviting. But what really elevates the experience is the guiding: expect engaging storytelling that connects the dots between the landscape, local communities, and the wildlife that makes this part of the Algarve so unique. Rather than just pointing things out, the tour brings in details about how people have lived with the lagoon over time—past and present—so the places you pass feel like more than just pretty views.
If you’re the type who likes to ask questions, you’ll feel at home. The atmosphere is welcoming and interactive, with plenty of room for curiosity—whether you’re wondering about the birds you’re spotting, the rhythms of the tides, or how the area has shaped local work and traditions. That blend of thrills on the water and meaningful context is what makes a Ria Formosa trip feel complete.
These outings are a great fit for couples, families, and small groups staying in Cabanas de Tavira (or nearby Tavira) who want a simple plan that still feels special. It’s also an excellent option if you want to experience the Ria Formosa without committing to a full-day itinerary—just show up, hop aboard, and let the lagoon do the rest.
For a memorable Ria Formosa boat tour with genuine local storytelling and a fun, scenic ride, Passeios Ria Formosa in Cabanas is an easy recommendation.

8 months agoUnfortunately, this experience did not meet expectations. The crew showed no effort to locate dolphins and spent the entire trip talking among themselves and browsing social media. They did not engage with the passengers at all or provide any information. Not a single word was spoken, except the initial welcome. We also spent 20minutes each way, picking and dropping passengers from a hotel. We did not see any dolphins or other see life and overall the trip felt poorly managed and unprofessional.

8 months agoWe went for a fishing trip, and it was extremely disappointing. In a boat of 10+ fishermen, we caught a total of 2 fish in the entire 2.5hrs. It was very clear that there were no fish to be found amongst the reef where we were anchored, and instead of moving us along the crew just kept moving us within 20m of the same shallow fish-less reef (we could even see the bottom, it was so shallow!). One of the fellow passengers asked if we could go somewhere else, to which the crew passively dismissed (frequently) saying ‘it’s just a bad day to go fishing’. The crew spent most of the time chatting amongst themselves rather than finding and relocating us to another spot to ensure we had a positive fishing experience - highly unprofessional. We paid €40 per person for this extremely disappointing 2.5hrs experience which I would not recommend to anyone and will not be doing again with this company. There are other companies in the area offering fishing trips, suggest you try them instead. I would give a zero star if I could.

7 months agoThis boat tour didn't meet our expectations and isn't worth your money. We took the Octopus tour (€35 pp) and it was a real waste of time and money. For the same amount (or even less) you can go to water parks like Splash & Slide, Aquashow or Zoomarine and get real value for your money. This was more like an expensive water taxi ride than anything else. They first took us to Santa Luzia (a village next to Tavira) to get some lunch. Next they took us to the beach so we could be an hour on the beach. With our hotel booking we got a free ride to the beach whenever we wanted to, so really no point for us in booking a boat tour and then get dropped of on the beach. The tour guide did no effort whatsoever to tell us anything about Tavira, the beaches, the fisher boats, the crabs in Santa Luzia etcetera. Most of the 4 hour trip you're not on the boat! Please do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and do not book a boat trip.

9 months agoNOT worth going with this company, waste of time & money They charge €20 pp for a 1.5 hr Flamingo Tour. The brochure says 4 Aqua Salina stop, but instead they took us to Tavira to pick up other people, the tour was 1 hr. We saw flamingos that were miles away, like little dots. We were given a brochure with pretty pictures of another area to sell other tours. The commentary was minimalistic and did not add value. AVOID this company as it is a rip-off and unprofessional. We complained and after long discussions they gave us €5 off the tour, they charged us for the 1hr trip. Feels like we were forced to a tour we didn't book.

9 months agoWe took a boat tour with Antonio to the Ria Formosa and had a thrilling and enjoyable time. The weather was perfect, but most of all we appreciated his knowledge and stories of the lives, both human and wild life, past amd present. He was gracious and helpful to answer our questions. I highly recommend his tour.
