Tucked away on Tv. do Areeiro, O Alcaide feels like one of those places you’re glad you didn’t miss—a charming Portuguese grill restaurant just far enough off the main flow to feel like a local find. In Alvor, it’s a great choice when you want a relaxed evening, friendly service, and food that leans into fresh ingredients and traditional flavour.
The seafood is where O Alcaide really shines. If you’re deciding what to order, the seafood cataplana is the headline act: rich, fragrant, and packed with a generous mix of seafood. It’s regularly praised for the balance of flavour, quality, and quantity—perfect for sharing if you want that classic Algarve experience where the table becomes the centre of the night.
Starters and grilled plates are also a strong bet, with diners describing the food as super fresh and consistently excellent. The prawns in garlic and piri piri are a popular idea if you like something bold to start; if you’re a real heat-seeker, you may want to ask for extra spice to match your preference. What comes through most is that the kitchen is capable and the ingredients do the heavy lifting, delivering the kind of honest, satisfying meal you come back for.
Service rounds out the experience. Staff are frequently described as brilliant—welcoming, helpful, and happy to guide you through the menu if you’re deciding between seafood specialties and grilled favourites. It’s a comfortable room for couples or families, with a warm, no-fuss feel that fits the neighbourhood setting.
For visitors who want an authentic, well-cooked dinner without the touristy gloss, O Alcaide is an easy recommendation in Alvor—especially if you’re craving Portuguese grilled seafood and a memorable seafood cataplana done the way it should be.

a month agoWe ate outside this evening, a busy little restaurant and it’s easy to see why. Staff really good, and the food delicious what more can you ask for. We had Bacalhau e Surf n Turf and it was superb.

a month agoWe 1st tried this restuarant many years ago and don't know why we never returned before tonight. Perhaps because there are so many nice restaurants in Alvor to choose from. We are glad we visited tonight as the food was amazing and the service very friendly and professional. The best meal so far during our weeks holiday. Now added to the top of our list of ' must visit restaurants " in Alvor.
