Big Nepalese Flavors, Warm Service, and Spice Done Right

Himalayan Pink Salt Restaurant brings something special to the dining scene in Alvor: a small, welcoming Nepalese restaurant where the flavors are bold, the dishes feel homemade, and the service is genuinely kind. It’s the sort of spot that wins people over quickly—especially if you’re craving something hearty, aromatic, and full of character.

The menu is packed with comforting favorites, and the kitchen doesn’t hold back on flavor. Samosa chaat is a standout starter, praised for its delicious sauces and that addictive sweet-sour-spicy balance that keeps you digging in. For mains, the curries are the headline act. Chicken Korai is often described as excellent and deeply satisfying, while the lamb madras has a loyal following for being rich, well-spiced, and memorable—exactly what you want when you’re in the mood for a proper curry night.

One of the most appreciated details here is how attentive the team is about spice level. If you want more heat, they’ll help you get it right—whether that means bringing a momo dumpling sauce that transforms the dish or a drizzle of chili oil that adds a punch without overwhelming the flavors. The naan is described as homemade, and it’s the perfect companion for scooping up sauces. Value matters too: guests love that rice is included with the curry, making the meal feel complete and straightforward.

With outdoor seating for pleasant evenings and staff who make you feel looked after from start to finish, Himalayan Pink Salt Restaurant is an easy recommendation for anyone seeking Nepalese cuisine and spicy curry in Alvor. Come hungry—and be prepared to compare everything else to it afterward.

Recomendo imenso.

*note - I have now amended this review/rating to 5* following our first visit below as the owner contacted us and invited us back and we had a completely different experience. Both the service and food was 5*. They explained that unfortunately the booking system 'the fork' was not updating them which is why they were not expecting us the previous night, and they were also exceptionally busy so the service we had before was not the norm. We had momo steamed dumplings to start, followed by a chicken korma, chicken biryani, and a chicken thali, with peshwari nan on the side. My son said the korma was the nicest he's ever had, my husband thought the thali was amazing, and the peshwari nan was absolutely delicious. We all loved the momos. The biryani was also very nice but I feel it could have done with a sauce on the side like other biryanis usually do. Thank you so much for insisting we came back, we enjoyed it very much and highly recommend others to eat here I booked a table for 3 via the fork and when we turned up the guy said they hadn't got our booking, but he fit us in on the last available table (which actually had a reserved sign on it but set up for 2). Then, we attempted to order our drinks and food - a chow mein, a biryani, and a thali. At which point the man said ohh no that order will be very difficult because vou're ordering 3 different things. We were very confused. He said the thali would take too long and so please could we have a curry instead because the curry would be iust the same as the one in the thali anyway. My husband specifically came here for the thali experience of having the different little dishes, and didn't want a curry on its own, so said it's fine if it takes longer. But the man was very adamant that it would be far too difficult for the kitchen to make and that they couldn't make 3 different dishes to be ready at the same time! We were very shocked and have never heard this in any restaurant before! If you can't allow customers to order different dishes at the same time then you need to change the menu accordingly. Needless to say, we left and went elsewhere! Shame as we were really looking forward to it and we love this sort of food. On reflection, he was clearly trying to get us to order the quickest dishes because they had double booked and wanted us out quickly. But it's not acceptable.
