Tucked away in the old town, Diplomático Restaurante Boutique & Bar is the kind of place locals mention with a smile—and visitors feel lucky to find. Set on R. 25 de Abril in Quarteira, this inviting restaurant pairs a relaxed, stylish setting with a menu that celebrates Portuguese favorites while keeping plenty of choice for every table.
Inside, the space is beautifully decorated and thoughtfully lit, and the outdoor terrace is especially charming with fairy lights and comfortable seating. It’s the perfect spot for an easygoing dinner, a date night, or a catch-up with friends over cocktails. If you’re bringing a four-legged companion, you’ll be glad to know it’s dog friendly—another reason it feels like a welcoming neighborhood favorite rather than a tourist stop.
The food is where Diplomático really shines. Guests often recommend starting with the fried prawns, or going for the vegetable tempura—carrot, zucchini, and cauliflower—finished with a balsamic drizzle that makes it surprisingly moreish. For mains, you’ll find a satisfying mix of fish and meat, plus options that work well for vegetarians. The codfish gratin is a must for anyone chasing classic Portuguese comfort food, while pork cheeks with mash are frequently described as cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. If you’re craving something truly traditional, the Portuguese steak is another dish that draws attention for both flavor and presentation.
Beyond the plate, the service here is a big part of the experience: attentive, kind, and genuinely fun, with a team that makes the room feel warm and relaxed. On certain nights you can enjoy live music, adding an extra layer of atmosphere without overpowering conversation. Come for a laid-back evening, stay for the traditional Portuguese food, and leave already planning your next visit.

in the last weekCame here based on a recommendation from hotspots Algarve Facebook page. Exceeded our expectations. Ate at the outdoor terrace during live music on a Friday night. We had the salmon skewer and bacalhau which were exceptional.

a month agoDecided to try this place after reading some reviews and so glad we did! Relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful setting with the best food we’ve eaten all week! The lightest tempura batter, a delicious goats cheese parcel and Black pork cheeks and monkfish and shrimp rice 👌 Filipa was the perfect host, we were made to feel really welcome and not rushed at all and to top it all off there was live music with a fantastic singer!
