Luz has its famous crescent of family sand. And then, past the rocks, this. Prainha da Luz is the ‘little beach’ at the edge of the main one: a small pocket of sand and stone tucked against the cliffs, the kind of corner regulars drift to when the central stretch fills up in August.

There’s nothing here by design: no facilities, no lifeguard’s chair, just rock, sand and quieter water at the village’s margin. The tide decides how much beach exists and whether you can reach it dry-footed, so check what the sea is doing before you commit. And the plain warning that comes with every cliff-backed corner of this coast: the rock above is unstable and unsupervised, so keep clear of the base.

Who it’s for: Luz-based visitors who want a quieter towel within walking distance of the village; low-tide wanderers with an eye on their return route.
