A remote west-coast beach in the Aljezur stretch of the Costa Vicentina, Praia do Canal is the kind of place the natural park exists to protect: dark cliffs, open Atlantic sand, and a very long way from a coffee. Reaching it involves unsurfaced tracks and a walk, and the effort keeps it close to empty even in August.

This is raw coast, not resort coast. There are no facilities and no supervision, the swell is serious for most of the year, and the cliffs are unstable: keep clear of their base and treat the ocean with west-coast respect.

Who it’s for: surfers and solitude-seekers who already know the Vicentina drill, and photographers chasing the wild-Atlantic register rather than golden coves. Check access conditions locally before setting out.
