Praia da Torralta is Alvor’s beach at its most democratic: the wide, dead-flat stretch backed not by cliffs but by the tower blocks of the 1970s Torralta holiday development that gave it its name. The architecture is what it is — say it plainly and move on — because the sand in front of it is some of the easiest, most generous beach walking in the western Algarve.
The geography does the work here. Westward, the beach runs to the dunes and boardwalks of the Ria de Alvor, all tidal channels, moored boats and estuary light. Eastward, the flat sand carries on until the first ochre rocks of Três Irmãos rise from it. Torralta itself is the connecting stretch: broad, serviced in season, with none of the access drama of the cove coast — you walk on, not down.
When to go: any time for the walking and swimming; photographers should head toward the ria at low tide and low sun, when the wet flats and channels double the sky.
Who it’s for: families who value flat access and space over scenery drama; walkers — the Alvor boardwalk to Três Irmãos round trip is one of the coast’s easiest good walks; anyone staying in Alvor. Cove romantics should start at Três Irmãos and work east instead.
