Faro’s share of the coast is not cliffs but barrier islands — the outer sands of the Ria Formosa, strung between sea and lagoon. Praia da Barrinha is one of the quieter names out on that barrier: flat pale sand, low dunes, the lagoon’s channels and birdlife at its back, the open Atlantic in front.

Expect the barrier-island basics and nothing more: big light, few people, no services to rely on. The photographic material is minimal by nature — sand ripples, channel water, dune grass, distance — and it rewards patience more than a checklist.

Who it’s for: lagoon wanderers and minimalists. If you want facilities and a straightforward drive-and-park beach day, Praia de Faro is the municipality’s serviced option.
