One of the Albufeira coast’s small, barely-signed coves — a strip of sand under ochre cliffs that appears on maps more often than in guidebooks. Praia da Vigia has none of the machinery of the town’s serviced beaches: no bar, no lifeguard post, and little reliable information about the way down — treat any access as unconfirmed until you’ve seen it yourself.

What draws people is what draws them to every unserviced cove on this coast — sandstone walls, quiet sand, water in the usual improbable blues. The cliffs here are the soft, eroding kind: keep clear of the overhangs, and remember nobody is supervising if something goes wrong.

Who it’s for: experienced cove-hunters happy to scout on foot and walk away if the route down doesn’t look right. Everyone else has a dozen easier beaches within ten minutes.
