Most of Albufeira’s hotel strip walks straight past this one. Aveiros sits tucked between Praia da Oura and Santa Eulália, below the clifftop streets of Areias de São João — a short drop of stairs, a modest bowl of sand, ochre rock on either side and a scatter of dark reefs just offshore that give snorkellers something to actually look at, which is rarer on this coast than the brochures imply.

Its size is the defining fact. At low tide there’s a proper little beach; as the water comes up, the sand shrinks hard and the cove gets intimate fast. That same smallness is what keeps it calmer than its big serviced neighbours even in peak weeks — there’s simply nowhere to put a crowd.

When to go: low tide, and mornings if you want the water at its clearest over the rocks. The cliffs above are urbanised — expect apartment balconies in your wider frames, and shoot tight or shoot seaward.

Who it’s for: snorkellers and families staying around Oura who want a change of scale; photographers working small compositions — rock, water, a single umbrella; anyone who judges a beach by its distance from a cocktail bar, in either direction.
