Vila Joya was doing ocean-terrace fine dining before the Algarve knew it needed any. The house sits in gardens above Praia da Galé, west of Albufeira: warm-toned architecture, Moorish-leaning arches, palms and lawns running toward the cliff edge, with the Atlantic horizon filling every gap the building leaves. The terrace faces the open Atlantic and the evening light turns the whole property golden; dinner on the terrace as the sun drops is the canonical Vila Joya experience. This is destination dining: reservations are essential, and often need to be made far ahead in season.
