Dolphins & Benagil Caves: A Must-Do Boat Adventure from Lagos Marina

Seatrips Lagos is the kind of tour operator you book when you want a sea experience that feels exciting, well-run, and genuinely memorable. Departing from Marina de Lagos (loja 10), this team is known for combining big “wow” moments—like dolphin encounters—with the Algarve’s iconic cave coastline, all in one easy, well-paced trip.

One of the biggest reasons travellers love Seatrips is the way the crew balances fun with real expertise. On the dolphin and Benagil cave outings, guides share clear, fascinating insights along the way—especially when a marine biologist is onboard, pointing out what to look for and explaining dolphin behaviour in a way that keeps both adults and teens engaged. It’s not just sightseeing; it’s a better understanding of what you’re seeing, right there on the water.

If you’re coming with family, Seatrips makes it feel smooth from the start. Families are often brought onboard first so you can sit together—small detail, big difference. Seating choice also adds to the experience: the front of the boat can be a little bumpy (many people actually find that part of the fun), and it’s also where dolphins often swim close, giving you a front-row view when the moment happens. When the boat slows near the caves, there’s time to move around and capture photos without feeling rushed or crowded.

The route is designed for maximum impact. You may travel a while before you spot dolphins, but when you do, it’s the kind of encounter people talk about long after the holiday—pods coming close to the boat, playful movement, and sometimes even baby dolphins. After the dolphin watching, the cruise continues along the dramatic coast to the caves, where the water and rock formations create that classic Algarve scenery people come to Lagos to experience.

For anyone who’s a bit nervous on boats, Seatrips also stands out for comfort and reassurance. Larger vessels can feel more stable, and the crew’s calm, humorous energy helps everyone settle in and enjoy the ride. If you’re sensitive to motion, it’s wise to bring something simple like gum for the cave section—then you can focus on the views and the atmosphere instead of the waves.

For an Algarve highlight that mixes dolphin watching, coastal exploration, and a professional crew, Seatrips is a smart, confidence-inspiring choice.

wonderful experience! incredible to see the dolphins, my one concern before the trip was the safety and wellbeing of the dolphins, however, we were assured by the marine biologist onboard that the dolphins were happy and showing no signs of distress. 10/10 experience.

We were so looking forward to this boat trip on our holidays as we had read great reviews about the caves & dolphin trip , on arrival to the meeting point (4th July @ 11.30am) we had to wait a half hour after our excursion start time when the lady apologised for our delay & explained that the sea was choppy & the boat had to go slower coming back in , which is totally understandable . When we got on the boat , my husband & son (7) was put to sit at the front two seats while me & my daughter sat behind , my son was excited to be at the front on the boat, but that excitement didn’t last too long for him as when we got further out to sea the waves were very choppy resulting in us getting splashed throughout our whole trip , when I say splashed I actually mean we got totally soaked every stitch on us was saturated from head to toe , & my son was very upset as at this point & wanted to go back as he was afraid of the waves that kept hitting us over the boat , when we were making our way out to see the dolphins the boat sped up & the waves soaking us was never ending , also we never got to go into the caves either as the sea was too choppy , overall we felt very disappointed with the trip , we were left sitting in our clothes that were soaked & felt very uncomfortable & I don’t think I’d ever do the trip again , in my opinion if they tour rep knew the sea was so choppy before hand the trip should have been postponed to another time.!! My advice would be make sure you check how choppy the sea is before you book this trip or you will be guarenteed a free sea salt soaking
