EL FARO TAPAS AND WINE BAR on Av. da República is a smart pick when you want a relaxed meal that still feels special. Set in the heart of Faro, this small, friendly restaurant focuses on made-to-order plates that lean Italian and Portuguese—simple in idea, but noticeably elevated in execution.
What makes the experience click is how fresh and generous everything feels. The tapas aren’t the tiny “one bite and it’s gone” kind—portions are satisfying enough that two or three plates can easily become a full meal. The cooking has that unmistakable homemade quality, like the dishes were designed to taste the way you hope they will when you try to recreate them at home… only better.
Wine is a big part of the draw here. You’ll find a thoughtful selection with options from multiple regions, including bottles from the north of the country that pair beautifully with the food. If you enjoy discovering new pairings, this is the type of place where the glass feels chosen with intention rather than added as an afterthought.
The vibe is warm and personal—service is attentive, and the team makes international visitors feel comfortable with multilingual support. Space indoors is limited, which adds to the cosy atmosphere, but it’s also a good reason to plan ahead on rainy days or busy evenings.
If you’re looking for tapas and wine in Faro with honest flavours, good value, and owners who clearly care about what lands on your table, EL FARO TAPAS AND WINE BAR is well worth a visit.

in the last weekSpectacular! Highly recommended if you're in the area. The waitress was very friendly. The food is amazing. If you go, order the stuffed ravioli; it's incredibly flavorful. They serve sangria with fruit, and the toast and mussels are delicious.
