Praia da Morena is a small coastal subject for photographers who want the Lagoa cliffs without the same public rhythm as the better-known coves nearby. The defining feature is the limestone form off the shore known as the Yellow Submarine — a rounded, eroded rock mass that sits like a partly submerged island against the Atlantic water.

The beach works best as a cliff-and-sea study rather than a simple sand scene. Limestone edges, caves and turquoise water give the frame its structure, while the Yellow Submarine gives it a recognisable anchor. Aerial views are especially relevant here, with the shore, rock and water reading as one compact composition from above.

When to go: leave the timing flexible unless you are arriving by sea with a local operator or your own boat. The practical constraint is access, not a gate or ticket: multiple visitors describe Morena as reachable only from the water. That makes conditions and boat availability part of the shoot, and it also helps explain the quieter feel.

The surrounding cliffs can involve steep rocky ground, so this is not a flip-flop coast if you are scouting nearby viewpoints or moving along the cliff edge. Keep the visit simple: photograph the beach from the water or above, then pair it with the nearby Albandeira, Fontainhas, Barranco or Praia Nova coastline if you are already working this stretch.

Who it’s for: coastal landscape photographers, drone shooters and anyone building a sequence of Lagoa’s smaller coves. It is a detour rather than a full destination by itself, but the Yellow Submarine rock gives Morena a subject that is distinct enough to earn the stop.
