The name means ‘rabid dog’, and the beach lives up to the unfriendliness — Praia do Cão Raivoso is a sliver of sand pinned under sheer limestone on the cliff coast between Benagil and Praia da Marinha, and it is primarily a beach you reach by sea. Kayak and SUP traffic out of Benagil passes it constantly in season; landing on its sand is the only realistic way to stand on it.

Once ashore, understand what you’re on: a closed cove with unstable, actively eroding cliffs on all sides, no supervision, no facilities and no quick way out if the swell picks up. Keep off the cliff base, watch the tide, and treat it as a short stop rather than a day plan.

Who it’s for: paddlers doing the Benagil-to-Marinha run who want a stop the boat tours can’t make, and photographers after untouched sand between gold walls. Everyone else gets the better view from the water anyway.
