Yellow Submarine is one of those Algarve surprises that feels like a secret—even though it’s absolutely memorable once you find it. Located near Vale de Engenhos in Lagoa, this distinctive coastal rock formation sits out in the ocean and genuinely resembles a submarine, giving the spot its playful, fitting name. If you love scenic viewpoints and unusual natural landmarks, it’s a great addition to your coastline itinerary.
Visitors often describe it as a striking yellow rock with some of the best views you’ll catch on a cruise or coastal lookout along the Algarve. From the right angle it can even look like a cake—proof that this is one of those places where every step (and every photo) changes the perspective. It’s a simple stop, but the scenery feels big: open water, rugged shoreline, and that golden color that pops against the blue sea.
Getting there is part of the adventure. The access road can be narrow, and many people park near Albandeira Beach before walking up toward the viewpoint. Along the way you may spot a small coffee shop near the parking area—handy if you want to grab something quick before the walk. Once you reach the higher ground and look out toward the ocean, the payoff is immediate: a clear view of the “submarine” rock and a panoramic sweep of coastline that’s especially rewarding on a bright day.
As a tourist attraction, Yellow Submarine is best for travelers who enjoy low-key exploring rather than structured tours. It’s ideal for couples chasing sunset views, families looking for an easy mini-adventure, or photographers who want something a little different from the usual beach scenes. The landmark is also refreshingly honest—people love that it actually looks like what it’s called, which isn’t always the case with named rock formations.
If you’re exploring the area around Lagoa, don’t skip this stop. Yellow Submarine delivers a fun, scenic, and genuinely unique Algarve moment—perfect for stretching your legs and filling your camera roll with something unexpected.

4 years agoAbsolute stunning and picturesque view. Really looks like a submarine. Peaceful and quite spot. To get there you have to either go by scooter or go by car and have short walk. The terrain is fine for flip flops walking. Would not recommend to access the beach by swimming from nearby beach as there are lots of boats passing.
