Wild Dolphin Encounters in Lagos with a Marine Biologist Onboard

Sealife Dolphin Watching is a top choice in Lagos if your main goal is seeing dolphins in their natural environment—up close, respectfully, and with real expertise guiding the experience. Operating from Marina de Lagos (Loja 10), this boat tour agency is known for trips that feel personal and calm, with a strong focus on the animals and the quality of the encounter rather than rushing from point to point.

One of the best parts of the Sealife experience is the guidance on board. With a marine biologist leading the commentary, you get a deeper understanding of what you’re watching—behaviour, pod dynamics, and what makes different species unique. It’s the kind of trip where questions are welcomed, and where you leave feeling like you did more than just “spot something in the distance.” There’s even extra educational material available onboard on some departures, which is a thoughtful touch for curious travellers and families.

Timing can matter, and early morning departures are often a smart move for the day’s conditions and sighting opportunities. Once you head out, the boat ride is described as smooth and comfortable—especially if you sit toward the back if you’re sensitive to motion. When dolphins are found, there’s typically enough space to move around for a great view, so you don’t feel stuck in one spot.

What really sets Sealife apart is the respectful approach. The skipper and guide are careful to give dolphins space and allow them to come closer on their own. That professional, animal-first style creates a more meaningful moment—watching dolphin families swim alongside the boat, seeing inquisitive individuals circle near the bow, and sometimes spotting babies moving with the adults. Encounters can vary—from small pods to truly unforgettable large groups—so each outing feels like a unique experience shaped by nature.

The crew’s energy also matters: friendly, passionate, and clearly excited when the magic happens. That enthusiasm is contagious, and it turns a boat trip into the kind of highlight people remember as a defining moment of their holiday.

If you’re looking for dolphin watching with expert interpretation, a comfortable ride, and a responsible mindset, Sealife Dolphin Watching is a confident pick from Lagos Marina.

Incredible experience – absolutely worth it! We took the early morning tour at 9:15 AM, which I definitely recommend – the chances of seeing dolphins seem to be higher early in the day. And wow, did it deliver: we saw over 100 dolphins, including several babies swimming alongside the adults. It was magical. The group size was small, which made everything more personal and calm. The boat ride was very smooth – you barely feel the waves, especially if you sit towards the back. Of course, once dolphins are spotted, everyone jumps up anyway and moves around to get the best view. Our guide was a marine biologist and shared tons of interesting facts about dolphins and other sea mammals. There was even a little booklet on board with more info to read during the trip – a really nice touch. Seeing dolphin families in their natural environment, undisturbed and peaceful, was an unforgettable experience. You can really tell the crew respects the animals and knows what they’re doing. Highly recommended!

We had a great trip out, with very knowledgeable and passionate skipper and guide. We travelled maybe 10km out, boat was great, very smooth. Really lucky to find and get close to see a pod of 5 Risso's dolphins who were inquisitive to pass around the boat. Lots of good facts from the guides, and after drifting with the dolphins for 15 minutes we left them. Plenty of space on the boat to walk around so everyone could get good views. Impressed by the staff's professionalism and care to give the dolphins their space and wait for them to come to us. Would definitely recommend.

This was definitely the highlight of my vacation this summer and one of those magical moments iny life. The staff was very friendly and our guide and biologist Danielle was such a lovely person and you noticed right away that she loves the animals. She also got excited as we saw quite a large group of dolphins (about 60). She was open to answer any question and was just such a wonderful animal loving person with so much knowledge. This boat trip will always be in my heart and I hope the guides also manage to make people to get more conscious about nature and the harm we can do to it, to all the animals and also to us. Thanks again for this experience and I hope I can repeat it some day. 100% worth!!!

A wonderful experience, from start to finish! This is a safari style tour, which means we went out looking for dolphins and other sea creatures that were in the wild. The success of the trip depended on a number of factors such as weather, season, luck, and the skills of the two marine biologists who led the tour. They have a 96% success rate, and that is outstanding and reassuring. The boat, Sea-a-Lot is a roomy catamaran with a pair of powerful outboard motors. The seats were comfortable and the vessel, due to the catamaran design, was stable and not prone to rolling. The lead biologist, Daniela, was an absolute delight. She was the perfect combination of friendliness, knowledge and enthusiasm. She made this journey lively and enjoyable. Did we see any dolphins? Yes, we did! It took about 30-35 minutes of motoring and we saw a bunch of dorsal fins in the far horizon. We slowed down and approached placidly. It was a pod of Common Dolphins, with adults and children in the mix. They were playful and they stayed with the boat for over 30 minutes, weaving, ducking and swimming around us. It was an experience! I have swam with dolphins and visited other so-called dolphin sanctuaries before. The big difference is that these dolphins were not in captivity. Hence, a safari trip. Highly recommended!
