Ribeira do Poço is a beloved restaurant in Vila do Bispo that draws people in for fresh seafood, classic Portuguese cooking, and a lively atmosphere that often starts early in the evening. The exterior has distinctive decorative touches, and the outdoor seating is a real plus—especially on pleasant days when the terrace becomes the best seat in the house. It’s also the kind of place that gets busy, so if you want a specific time or table, reserving ahead can make your visit much smoother.
The menu is packed with Algarve favorites, and seafood is where this spot shines. If you’re deciding what to order, the fish cataplana is a standout—aromatic, generous, and full of that slow-cooked depth that makes cataplana such a regional classic. Grilled limpets are another strong choice, especially if you like briny flavors and a properly executed grill. Many diners also rave about the quality of the fish, with recommended catches like fresh seabream praised for both taste and value.
It’s not only about the sea, though. If you’re here for lunch and want something different, the lamb cotêlets have earned serious compliments—tender, flavorful, and memorable in the way a simple dish becomes exceptional when it’s done right. And you’ll want to leave room for dessert: an almond roll paired with artisan ice cream is a house favorite that rounds out the meal beautifully. Even the starters can surprise, from a tasty avocado option to other small plates that set the tone for a relaxed, satisfying meal.
Service is another highlight, with experienced staff who keep things moving even when the dining room is close to full. One practical tip: come prepared with cash, as that can be important for settling the bill. If you’re exploring the area—especially on routes to and from Cabo de São Vicente—Ribeira do Poço is a rewarding stop for fresh seafood, comforting Portuguese plates, and a welcoming local buzz.

in the last weekFresh & tasty, and fabulous, friendly staff… Pedro explained the menu thoroughly, and was an absolute delight - he made the whole experience wonderful. Perceves (goose barnacles) so fresh, piri piri prawns excellent, vinho verde, and Tres Delicias do Algarve (almond, carob & fig) to finish - yum!

a week agoThe avacado starter was tasty, but bit pricey for what we got.The recommended fresh seabream was excellent and good value. Desert was also very good. Recommended to give them a try when you are in the area. It was on our way back from Cabo de sao Vincente Lighthouse.

a month agoWe especially came for lunch but they closed till February. However, Google indicates that they are open and operating successfully. This demonstrates a shocking lack of respect for customers. We remain deeply disturbed and indignant. Its a horror.
