Olive Factory Tavira is the kind of experience you plan your day around—part behind-the-scenes visit, part delicious celebration of Algarve flavors. Tucked along the Hélder Madeira grounds in Tavira, this welcoming tour agency invites you through the gates for an upbeat, family-run look at how local olives are processed, prepared, and turned into the goods you’ll want to take home.
Guests often mention the warm, personal welcome from Andrea and the team, and it’s easy to see why the visit feels more like being hosted than being “guided.” The processing tour is designed to be both informative and entertaining, with plenty of time for questions and curious food lovers. If you enjoy learning the “how” behind what ends up on your plate, you’ll appreciate the clear explanations and the genuine pride the family puts into every detail.
The real finale, though, is the tasting—widely described as generous enough to count as a meal. Expect an abundant spread featuring olive tasting across a huge range of styles, plus flavorful accompaniments like breads, oils, dips, and homemade sauces. Many visitors highlight the variety: olives paired with piri piri, honey, and oils, along with locally sourced cheeses and meats such as prosciutto. You’ll also find sweet touches like jams and marmalades that balance the savory bites, and the tasting is often rounded out with wine—making it a relaxed, unhurried way to finish your visit.
If you’re traveling as a couple, with friends, or as a family of food enthusiasts, this is a memorable stop that feels distinctly Tavira: local, generous, and full of flavor. Booking the tour and tasting together is the best way to get the complete experience—especially if you want to sample broadly, ask questions, and leave with a new appreciation for Algarve olive culture.

5 months agoAndrea & team are amazing! A warm welcome from the moment one enters the gate. The processing tour is informative & entertaining. Be sure to book tour & tasting because the array of olives to sample is huge but the accompaniments of piri piri, honey, oils, bread & wine are exemplary!

5 months agoThe tour and tasting at Helder Madeira Olive factory in Tavira is fabulous. The knowledge and effort that goes into this tour is incredible. The factory and tour are run by a mother and her two daughters. The tastings are enough for a meal, very generous with olives, different kinds of breads, oils, dips, cheese, prosciutto, jams and honey ... And they served wine with the tastings. A must do if in the area.

8 months agoI had a great experience visiting the olive factory! The tour was very informative, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We arrived about an hour early and were pleasantly surprised to enjoy some unique and delicious cocktails before the tour started. The tasting afterwards was also amazing – you can really taste the quality of their products. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area. Highly recommended!

9 months agoA Must-Visit Hidden Treasure in Madeira – Helder’s Olive Factory is Incredible! The 2 photographers of photolator.com Visited Helder Madeira's Olive Factory was one of the highlights of our trip to Tavira. This place is more than just an olive oil producer—it's a true passion project brought to life with heart, craftsmanship, and deep respect for tradition. Helder himself is a fantastic host: warm, knowledgeable, and clearly dedicated to quality. He took the time to explain the entire process, from tree to bottle, and his enthusiasm is contagious. The tasting experience was unforgettable—fresh, aromatic olive oils with complex flavors that put anything store-bought to shame. The factory blends beautifully into the natural surroundings, and there's a calm, authentic charm to the whole visit. You don’t just leave with world-class olive oil—you leave with a genuine connection to the people and land of Madeira. Highly recommended for food lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to experience the true soul of the island. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
