Ecomarine Algarve is a must for anyone in Faro who wants a truly nature-led day on the water. As a trusted whale watching tour agency (with a strong focus on dolphins), the team delivers trips that feel personal, well organised, and respectful to the marine life—so the experience is exciting without ever feeling intrusive.
The dolphin encounter is the moment people remember. Out in open water, the crew searches patiently and uses local knowledge to find pods moving through the area. When dolphins are spotted, the approach is calm and controlled, giving you the chance to observe these powerful animals up close while they swim freely alongside the boat. Guests often describe it as emotional and unforgettable—one of those rare travel experiences that’s hard to put into words because it hits you in the moment.
Many visitors also love the structure of the dolphin-and-islands format. After time on the water, you can switch gears and slow down on Ilha Deserta, where the beach feels quiet and untouched—perfect for a walk, a few photos, and simply enjoying the space. The day often continues to Ilha do Farol, where you’ll find a charming fishing-village atmosphere and lighthouse scenery that feels distinctly Algarvian. It’s the kind of combination that gives you both adventure and calm, all in one outing.
On board, the experience is made even better by the crew’s communication and care. Captains and guides share clear, engaging explanations about the ecosystem and what you’re seeing, often in multiple languages, and they pay attention to comfort and safety—life jackets, a capable boat, and a confident presence that helps everyone relax (even when the ride gets a bit bumpy and sea-sprayed).
If you’re looking for a high-quality dolphin watching trip from Faro that also showcases island life and local coastal knowledge, Ecomarine Algarve is an excellent choice.

10 months agoWe had an unforgettable day on the dolphin and 2-island tour with Ecomarine Algarve. The absolute highlight was the time spent with a school of wild dolphins — a magical, emotional experience that we'll never forget. After about an hour of searching, our captain spotted them in open water. He approached slowly and respectfully, allowing us to observe them up close without disturbing them. Watching these powerful, graceful animals swimming freely alongside the boat was simply breathtaking — a rare and moving encounter with nature. Our English-speaking captain was excellent — knowledgeable, experienced, and clearly passionate about the wildlife and the area. After the dolphins, we visited Ilha Deserta, walking the quiet beach under blue skies, exploring the local plants and wildlife, and enjoying a cold beer at the island’s restaurant. Then on to Ilha do Farol, a charming fishing village with a lighthouse, where we had a delicious meal at a fantastic little restaurant. On the return journey, the captain pointed out birds and marine life along the sandbanks. The whole tour was well organised and felt very personal. We felt safe, relaxed, and completely looked after. If you're in Faro, don’t miss this — the dolphin encounter alone makes it worth every second. My poor photo does not come close to capturing what we saw (sorry!) — it was one of those rare experiences that has to be felt in person.

5 months agoExcellent 2-3 hours dolphin trip, well worth getting up early. Rita and Captain Carlos mixed marine biology expertise and local knowledge to find a pod of up to 100 dolphins. A little wet and bumpy at times but who cares! Safe good size boat with life jackets. Highly recommended👍

6 months agoThe boat captain Carlos was fantastic. The ecosystem talk was given in English and Spanish. The team were attentive and made sure we were comfortable. They were so considerate of the local marine life and explained that when we did find a pod of dolphins we could not spend too much time with them to make sure that we don't disrupt their environment too much. It was a FANTASTIC trip - couldn't recommend enough.

2 years agoGreat boat trip with Carlos who enthusiastically enlightened us about the local flora and fauna. Of course excited whether we would see any dolphins, we got lucky and saw several groups of them hunting sardines and other fish. This was followed by a relaxing 90 minutes on one of the islands and an excellent seafood lunch on one of the other islands. Overall really good experience and great with kids!

5 months agoAmazing experience - we went on the boat with our 1.5 year old and the crew looked after us super well. We were positioned well on the boat to minimize the “roughness” of the ride. Our little one even fell asleep for a little bit. We saw amazing sea life and all was done in such a respectful manner. I can only recommend and would definitely do this again.
