Tucked into one of Tavira’s old streets, the restaurant takes over the pavement with tables outside, all quite close together, full of people and that slightly chaotic atmosphere that somehow feels exactly right on an August evening. We came mainly for the meat and decided not to overthink it. We asked the chef to make us a selection of grilled meats at his discretion. Excellent decision. Different cuts arrived sliced on wooden boards, beautifully grilled, properly charred on the outside and still juicy and pink where they should be. Everything we tried was fantastic. The sides are uncomplicated, chips, rice, beans and the sort of things that belong next to a good piece of grilled meat. Add a few cold beers and some wine and there really isn't much more you need. The restaurant was packed, with tables almost spilling into the narrow street, but the service remained genuinely friendly, attentive and welcoming throughout the evening. Despite how busy it was, we never felt rushed or forgotten. No unnecessary sophistication, no reinvention of the wheel. Just very good grilled meat, cold drinks, genuinely warm service, a busy table outside and a summer night in Tavira.
